It is indeed a privilege to lead the Faculty of Health Science and Tropical Medicine (FHS&TM), Somali National University (SNU), which is Somalia’s most vibrant institution, which shines as a beacon of excellence on the horizon of higher education and research.  From a modest beginning with epidemiological research, faculty  envision to gain towering stature, both at the national level as well as internationally, addressing the health needs of Somali people in the fast-changing world. The SNU main campuses continues to expand, both academically and in terms of physical environment, whereas, our commitment to education, research and scientific leadership continues to grow unabated.  The Faculty will develop a knowledge ecosystem which inspires and stimulates high-impact research. It is already recognized nationally as a research-led, socially-engaged programs, distinguished by its commitment to multi-disciplinary research, education and training. We have already developed research collaboration with international partners, and we are open for collaborations with many more institutions both nationally and internationally.

FHS&TM  is poised to play a leading role to propel the country into knowledge-driven health policy, thus improving the lives of masses and contributing towards healthy society, through need based research, nurturing versatile and creative young minds who have the will and enthusiasm to make a difference in the field of health science and stride confidently into the future as society’s torch bearers. The school’s future roadmap will be aligned so as to spearhead national efforts to achieve health related Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2030 of the Government. The manifestation of this Vision is imbibed in our plans to establish Somalia’s first center for Vector and tropical diseases control, center for maternal and children’s health, center for nutrition and Non-communicable diseases, center for Somali health research, center for epidemiology and infectious diseases control , aimed at transiting the country towards evidence based policy.

God willing, I foresee FHS&TM  attaining these sublime objectives by synergizing its strengths in pursuit of its defined vision.
