Somalia has experienced three decades of civil war and it has the third highest maternal mortality in the world (732 per 100,000).    Globally, 61% of all childbirths are attended by a skilled birth attendant, while only 20% of delivering women in Somalia receive help from trained health personnel. Further, less than 10% of women in reproductive age have access to modern contraception. Consequently, one out of every 12 women dies due to pregnancy-related causes. To improve maternal and reproductive health in Somalia through evidence based interventions is number one priority for SPHR.
